The regulatory framework
Three families of flight, three procedures.
In France, flying a drone follows European Regulation (EU) 2019/947. Your training obligation depends on where you fly, the weight of the aircraft and your use. Here are the factual reference points.
Close to people
Additional theory exam at an approved body to fly at a reduced distance from people, never over an assembly.
Regulated missions
Standard STS scenarios (populated area, beyond line of sight), remote pilot theory exam (CATT), operations manual and activity declaration.

Allows flying near people (never over an assembly), keeping a safety distance.
Your procedure
- First obtain the A1/A3 certificate (free online training, AlphaTango).
- Pass the additional A2 theory exam (certificate of competence) at an approved centre.
- Register the operator on AlphaTango (DGAC) and display the UAS number on the aircraft.
- Keep at least 30 m horizontally from people (5 m in low-speed mode).

Frequently asked questions
Who needs the remote pilot certification?
Anyone flying a drone over 800 g for professional use, or carrying out aerial photography, inspection, surveillance or mapping missions. Since January 2021, DGAC certification has been mandatory for professional uses.
How much does the training cost and how can it be financed?
Our complete training costs €1,290 (theory + practice). It is eligible for the CPF (CPF — French personal training account). We support you through the financing procedures. Payment in 3 interest-free instalments is also available.
How long is the certification valid for?
The remote pilot certification is valid for 5 years. After that, a refresher is required. We offer continuing training and regulatory updates so you stay current.
Can I fly a drone in town or near airports?
Flights in built-up areas and near airports are subject to strict restrictions. Our training covers all regulated zones and the authorisation procedures with the DGAC and the préfectures.
